Full Member Dues for the UPTF are set at 2.3% of gross salary. Full membership means the ability to participate fully in the governance of the union: the right to vote in a union election or contract ratification, serve on a union committee, and be consulted about contract platforms and other union campaigns. For those wanting to support their fair share of administering and enforcing the contract, but uncomfortable with all of the political, social, or community activities of the union, the UPTF provides the alternative of the Fair Share (non-voting) membership, set at 85% of Dues, or 1.95% of gross salary. Fair Share, is calculated annually to ensure that the percentage is set after political, social, and community activities of the union are deducted from union expenses.

Are you receiving compensation for parking on campus? Payment of parking for part-time faculty is university policy. Occasionally, the union has heard that some part-time faculty are not receiving a parking allowance.
The union has been assured by the administration that 1) there is no plan to end the policy; 2) the Office of the President has both the means and the will to enforce the policy. But remember, this is a university policy and not a right under the UPTF Bargaining Agreement. Effective fall 2011, there has been a change to the parking policy based on IRS rules. See changes
If you are not receiving parking fees on your One Card, you can remind your department chair of the policy, and if need be, a UPTF representative can help you to bring the matter up with your chair. Please let UPTF know if you are not receiving the parking allowance. Contact the UPTF at (313) 577-0958.

01-3 Part-Time Faculty (pp. 184-85 of University Policy.pdf).
ยง5.3 The appointing school/college or equivalent unit shall provide each part-time faculty with a parking card, paid for by the unit, that includes parking for a number of days that approximates the number of days of classroom teaching, examination administration, and any other mandatory duties that correspond to the responsibilities set forth in the letter of appointment. This provision does not apply to part-time faculty members whose sole duties and responsibilities are fulfilled at University extension centers or other off-campus locations.

If you have had money added to your One Card to offset the cost of parking at WSU, the IRS considers this to be taxable income. Employees receiving this income will have the additional tax withheld (federal, state, local, and FICA) based on the value added to the One Card. This additional tax withholding should occur on one paycheck per semester unless the PTF member has multiple appointments, each with separate amounts for parking.

Red "A", an insurance agency that is majority owned by the AFL-CIO Public Employee Trust, has gathered individual medical insurance plans on one site. These products are the same that are offered through other agencies, or the insurance company sites, but they have been gathered in one spot to make comparison shopping easier. Any commissions that are paid to Red "A" go to support the Public Employee Trust. Union members who cannot afford health insurance that comes with a prescription component can acquire, at no additional cost, an APEC discount card good for the union discount that is available to AFT affiliate members.
