The Administration of Wayne State University and Union of Part-Time Faculty have agreed to begin a one year pilot program that will provide Part-Time faculty with the opportunity to purchase (with pre-tax dollars) Dental and Vision insurance at their own expense. In this voluntary program, premiums will be paid by payroll deduction. For this academic year (2010-11) coverage will begin on October 1 and run through August 31 of 2011. The plan calls for PTF to pay for the full 11 months of covereage in 14 paychecks, beginning with the paycheck of October 13, 2010 and ending with the paycheck of April 27, 2011. In subsequent years, presuming the plan is renewed, coverage will run from September 1 through August 31. PTF will pay for 12 months of coverage with deductions from all 16 part-time paychecks of the fall and winter semesters. Links are provided below.

UPTF member eligibility to participate in the WSU retirement program will begin sometime this fall. Once a member signs up, deductions will be made from every paycheck. There will be no university match, but Bargaining Unit members can participate in the full range of retirement options available to other WSU employees (TIAA-CREF or Fidelity).

Are you receiving compensation for parking on campus? Payment of parking for part-time faculty is university policy. But the union has heard from some part-time faculty that they were not paid for parking last term.
The union has been assured by the administration 1) that there is no plan to change the policy; 2) that the Office of the President has both the means and the will to enforce the policy. If you are not receiving parking fees on your One Card, you are perfectly within your rights to remind your department chair of the policy, and if need be, a UPTF representative can help you to bring the matter up with your chair.
Please let UPTF know if you are not receiving parking. We will collect the information and bring it to the attention of the President’s Office. Contact the UPTF at (313) 832-7902.

This provision does not apply to part-time faculty members whose sole duties and responsibilities are fulfilled at University extension centers or other off-campus locations.
